Lionel Richie wasn't afraid to be honest about his daughter Sofia Richie's relationship with Keeping Up with the Kardashians star Scott Disick. In an interview with The Daily Telegraph, Richie didn't mince words about his daughter's current love life, going as far as to call it "just a phase" in her life.
She's 19. When you're 19 you know everything. Is it going to be for life? I don't know. But for right now, it's just a phase and I'm going to stand real still in the corner, get me a good drink and not make too much noise.
The couple has been dating for more than nine months now, and they're not keeping it a secret. Sofia Richie and Scott Disick have been spotted in various locales, and Sofia has posted pictures with Scott on her Instagram. Most recently, she posted a snap of them together on Valentine's Day.
While Lionel Richie doesn't think the love shared between 34-year-old Disick and his 19-year-old daughter Sofia is one that's meant to last, the musician nevertheless says nice things about the boyfriend during the interview. And, despite what he said earlier, Richie notes that he will have "no opinion" on the relationship as they continue forward, though that doesn't stop him from voicing his thoughts about the "Kardashian machine."
From what I met of him, he's a very nice guy. When you hang around the reality world, who knows what you are really doing? This is a well-oiled machine, the Kardashian machine. I don't really know what to think. I told Sofia I will have no opinion. I'll continue to be my cheerful self and move on.
Scott Disick was previously in a long-term, on-and-off relationship with Kourtney Kardashian before he got together with Sofia Richie. Disick and Kardashian first started dating back in 2006, and their relationship was well-documented on the reality show program. The former couple share three children together, eight-year-old Mason Dash, five-year-old Penelope Scotland and three-year-old Reign Aston. Scott and Kourtney broke up in 2015 and they were never married. One reason for their unsettled relationship was due to Scott's potential alcohol problems, which were also documented on the program.
While Lionel Richie can seem critical of his daughter Sofia's newest, ongoing relationship, he also admits that he can't complain too much. After all, the dad relates to what his daughter is doing at the moment, as it reminds the 64-year-old of his own younger self. Like father, like daughter, it seems.

Lionel Richie recently announced his UK tour, for which tickets are currently on sale. Meanwhile, Kris Jenner also recently grilled Scott Disick about his relationship with Sofia Richie during filming of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, but maybe she'll use Lionel Richie's method for handling the couple from now on.
