What Matt Damon Thinks Of Ben Affleck's New Back Tattoo
Ben Affleck and Matt Damon have been best friends from the beginning. They got into the business together, and supported each other every step of the way. And when Affleck got an impressively large back tattoo, we were only moments away from hearing what Damon thought about his buddy's new ink. Sure enough, that day has come. On a recent appearance on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, Damon talked about his bud's new back tat.
In an extended interview with Trevor Noah for the Comedy Central series, Matt Damon was joined alongside Gary White to spread the word about water.org and water equality. In the midst of their conversation, however, Ben Affleck's trending tattoo expectedly came up. Of course, Matt Damon had things to say, but he also respected the decision made by his best friend. After all, Damon believes it's not his place to make stern judgments.
Matt Damon and Ben Affleck have known each other for nearly two decades, as Damon also notes in the interview. They're not afraid to get candid when the moment allows. But it's a tribute to their friendship that Damon is playing nice, recognizing the tattoo is going viral, but respecting his BFF's decision anyway. That's a good friend: supportive and good-humored, even when they know they're gonna do something that's really loco. Like getting a full back tattoo of a dragon, for instance. But even though Affleck is being friendly with his buddy, there are many, many online commentators who've poked fun at Ben Affleck's expense. Twitter, in particular, had a field day for a week about the odd body art decision from the Argo actor-director.
It's unclear what inspired Ben Affleck to get the massive tattoo. Some might believe it's for a movie part, but that's not clear. And it does look real in the most recent photos, though maybe that's a credit to the tattoo make-up artists who pulled it off. In any case, it's an odd choice for the A-list actor.
Ben Affleck recently started filming J.D. Chandor's long-gestured drama Triple Frontier. The movie also stars Charlie Hunnam, Oscar Isaac, Garrett Hedlund and Pedro Pascal. It's not clear how the tattoo will play into the film, if at all. He was last seen in Warner Bros.'s DC team-up Justice League in the fall. Matt Damon, meanwhile, recently appeared in Downsizing, Suburbicon and The Great Wall. He also recently made a brief cameo in Thor: Ragnarok and will be seen in Ocean's 8 later this year.
