College Student Charged 15K Of Porn On Roommate's Credit Card
When you have a roommate, it's bound to be a tumultuous experience. It's just a fact of life. Even the best of friends have found their relationships tested when they decide to live together under the same roof. Sure enough, everyone can assuredly recount a story or two of when their pesky roommates were, shall we say, less-than-hospitable. And this story of roommate-on-roommate confrontation is, well, one for the ages. As it is being reported, two Penn State roommates have found themselves deeply at odds with each other, when the one roommate put more than $15,000 worth of porn charges on the other's debit cards over the course of three years. Pardon our French here, but what a dick move.
As it was recounted by Centre Daily Times, a Penn State student returned to the campus in August, after he was serving with the South Korean Army, when he noticed something strange: $10,000 was missing from his bank account. When he alerted the police about the missing cash, they did their research and discovered that the purchases lead directly to porn-related websites, and they found it was directed to an email from his roommate. Apparently, over the course of at least two years, the one roommate was using the other roomie's debit card information to watch live pay-per-view events of the pornographic nature. Suffice to say, that didn't go over too well with the roommate who got footed with the bill that's in the thousands.
When pressed about how this happened and how he acquired so much debt onto his roommate's debit card, the porn-watching roommate claimed he didn't know for sure how he received his roommate's debit card information. But if he had to harbor a guess, he believes he might've memorized it from the number of times his former roommate ordered wings over the phone. If that's not one of the most college roommates answers ever.
Suffice to say, these porn charges are really going to bite this roommate in the ass. More specifically, he is being charged with four felonies: theft by deception, theft by unlawful taking, unauthorized access device use and identity theft. That's not a roster you want to be attached to your name, especially as a college student. Despite the excessive charges, however, the roommate claims he didn't have bad intentions when he used his roomie's debit card info for his, shall we say, extracurricular activities. But now, it's up to the court to decide what his fate shall be. According to the Penn State police, he is currently under lawful investigation, and it will probably be a little while before we know for sure what his fate will be from this criminal trial.
It should also be known that the bail is currently set at $250,000. So, yeah, it sounds like this college student has one of the most expensive porn watching habits in history in the works at the moment. What will become of his legal trial, however, is going to be determined in the weeks to come.
