Anderson Cooper Thanks Fans For All The Well-Wishes
Yesterday wasn’t just a typical Monday for Anderson Cooper. After years of side-stepping lingering questions about his personal life, the news anchor finally put his sexuality on record, admitting in a long email that he’s gay and has no qualms about it. The move must have been a bit of a nerve-wracking experience for the forty-five-year-old, but luckily, he received almost instantaneous support from a slew of fans both within and outside the gay community.
Within hours, a host of gay-friendly celebrities also weighed in with the likes of Ellen DeGeneres, Andy Cohen and Jesse Tyler Ferguson all offering big thumbs up. Apparently, their kind words were much appreciated too. This morning, Cooper reached out all the way from Botswana to enthusiastically thank everyone who came through with encouragement when he needed it most.
Given how zealously he’s guarded his personal life over the years, it doesn’t surprise me Cooper didn’t directly mention what the “nice tweets” were about. In fact, there’s a real possibility he’ll never bring up his sexuality in public again. Fortunately, once is enough to clear up the rumors and throws his support to a cause that greatly needs it.
Yesterday, Pop Blend asked if coming out was a good career move for Anderson Cooper. Let the record show almost two-thirds of voters said it was. With increased tolerance and acceptance, there’s no reason to think they won’t be proven right in ten years.
Well played, Silver Fox. Well played.
