Is Bill Hader Making The Right Call By Leaving SNL?
Over the course of Saturday Night Live’s almost forty year history, the show has proven to be an incredible launching pad for dozens of successful actors. From top end A-list talent like Eddie Murphy and Bill Murray to wonderful supporting players like Phil Hartman and David Spade, SNL has given the world a ton of talent, and if all goes according to plan, it may be close to giving us another extremely bright star.
Earlier this week, SNL veteran Bill Hader announced he will leave the sketch comedy show at the end of the season in order to pursue other opportunities and to let the next generation of comedians have their turn in the spotlight. Given how many projects he already has booked, it seems like a wise decision for Hader to go, but unfortunately, the past four decades of Hollywood history are filled with dozens of Not Ready for Primetime Players who worked the first few years after leaving the show and then slowly drifted away.
I would like to think Hader will do very well for himself. He’s been in a ton of great films already like Superbad and Adventureland, and once he has more time to give movies a go, there’s no reason to think he won’t at least become a regularly working supporting player a la Chris Parnell. When it comes to movie success, however, you just never know. What do you think? Is it a good call for Hader to leave Saturday Night Live? Let us know your thoughts by voting in the poll below…
