Chinese Actor Sets Social Media Record After Confessing Affair
Social media in China was set ablaze recently as a famous actor made a startling and bold statement via the Chinese version of Twitter. In a very short amount of time, his post has surpassed the nearly 800,000 retweets President Obama received the night of his re-election and is gaining ground on Ellen DeGeneres' Oscar selfie. The craziest part about all of it? You’ve probably never heard of him.
Wen Zhang is not a name familiar to most in America, but he’s starred alongside Jet Li in a couple films. His role in director Stephen Chow’s bizarre Journey To The West also made the rounds around the web not that long ago. In China, he is an award winning actor and star of the hit drama Naked Marriage. Fitting now, as The Hollywood Reporter says Zhang bared all on Twitteresque Chinese site Weibo and revealed he had been cheating on his wife with the co-star of his hit show. The post sent shockwaves across the East, and can be read in full below.
Since the post on the affair went live, it has been shared over 1.25 milion times and received over 2 million comments. The numbers are a site record for Weibo, and if it stays on track, the internet in general. Various comments from readers expressing sadness, outrage, and support flooded in for the actor. Not long after, his wife and actress My Yili, who is pregnant with the couple's second child, issued a much shorter response on the same site.
Her post is gaining steam as wel,l having generated 650,000 shares and over a million comments. It is now the second most popular post on the site. There has been no comment as of yet from the third person in all of this, Zhang’s co-star and fake wife on the show, Yao Di. This whole event started when a racy photo of the two co stars leaked onto the web and forced Zhang to come clean to his wife of six years.
