DMX: I Wasn't Drunk, I Just Don't Have A License
Contrary to what you may have heard, DMX was not arrested for drunk driving in South Carolina last night. He might have been pulled over on suspicion of drunk driving. He might have been hit with a pop breathalyzer quiz by the cops, but apparently, he passed the shit out of it. Unfortunately, when it came to the “do you have a current license?” portion of the traffic stop, he failed abysmally. That’s why he was hauled off to jail, and that’s why some journalists mistakenly assumed he was boozing and driving.
At least that’s the word from DMX’s camp in response to TMZ’s drunk driving allegation. Here’s a portion of the actual statement the rapper’s publicist gave MTV to try and set the record straight…
Over the years, DMX has had more than his share of legal problems. Apart from two recent arrests for driving with a suspended license, he’s actually started to head toward the straight and narrow over the past few years, which is a very good thing considering the path he was on was curving straight toward either jail or death, depending on what fork he decided to take.
For a few years about a decade or so ago, it seemed like DMX could emerge as one of the biggest rappers in the world. Along with the Ruff Ryders, he had a string of aggressive hits, but ultimately, he was never able to capitalize on that success. To this day, he remains a name in the rap community and is still able to put asses in the seats, but he’s had a lot of trouble replicating his prior success in the form of hit songs and MTV airplay.
Luckily, all of his classic tracks remain Internet staples, and since it’s Friday and we’re all looking for ways to kill some time, you can check out one of the rapper’s classic videos below. Be warned, it’s a bit NSFW, but it’s still more than worth a watch…
