Dave Grohl Assures Fans Foo Fighters Have Not Broken Up

Contrary to what you may have heard, the Foo Fighters are not breaking up. The guys haven’t said their goodbyes or indefinitely committed to side projects. They are and forever will be brothers, but now and again, brothers need to take some time apart for the best interests of everyone.

That’s the message to take away from an open letter Dave Grohl wrote to fans today in response to the recent break-up controversy. The guys were playing a gig over the weekend in Central Park when the frontman said he wasn’t sure when they’d all be together again. Nervous enthusiasts took the announcement to mean the concert was the last the Foos would ever play, but that’s definitely not the case. They’re just going to explore some different stores and meet back up at the big mall fountain at a time to be determined by text message later.

Here’s a look at Grohl’s statement, released by his publicist to Entertainment Weekly…

Hey everyone…Dave here. Just wanted to write and thank you all again from the bottom of my heart for another incredible year. (Our 18th, to be exact!) We truly never could have done any of this without you… Never in my wildest dreams did I think Foo Fighters would make it this far. I never thought we COULD make it this far, to be honest. There were times when I didn’t think the band would survive. There were times when I wanted to give up. But… I can’t give up this band. And I never will. Because it’s not just a band to me. It’s my life. It’s my family. It’s my world.Yes… I was serious. I’m not sure when the Foo Fighters are going to play again. It feels strange to say that, but it’s a good thing for all of us to go away for a while. It’s one of the reasons we’re still here. Make sense? I never want to NOT be in this band. So, sometimes it’s good to just… put it back in the garage for a while…But, no gold watches or vacations just yet… I’ll be focusing all of my energy on finishing up my Sound City documentary film and album for worldwide release in the very near future. A year in the making, it could be the biggest, most important project I’ve ever worked on. Get ready… it’s coming. Me, Taylor, Nate, Pat, Chris, and Rami… I’m sure we’ll all see you out there… somewhere…Thank you, thank you, thank you…Dave

With most bands, you would take a letter like this with a grain of salt. You would wonder whether or not they’ll actually get together and be a bit sad. With the Foos, however, there’s no reason to doubt anything Grohl said. The only real lineup change the guys have made in the last 12 years was to bring original guitarist and all-around badass Pat Smear back into the fold as an extra member, and considering how much fun they all seem to have, there’s no reason to think they won’t want to return to it in a few years.

Here’s to hoping the guys are all able to find fulfillment in other places to return with a clear head and positive vibes in the future.
