Eminem Announces New Album The Marshall Mathers LP 2
Eminem has introduced us to a brand new teaser video that gives us hint at what his newest album might be like. According to the singer’s website, the rapper is “about to kick-off this party” with a brand new single called “Berzerk” that will hit the market on Tuesday. The single will be part of an album that Eminem is calling The Marshall Mathers LP 2.
The snippet of the new song doesn’t tell us much about the new “Berzerk” single, but the video does highlight Eminem’s unique vocals, as well as gives us some information about the single, which was produced by Rick Rubin. The video also notes that The Marshall Mathers LP 2, otherwise known as MMLP2, was co-produced by Rubin and Dr. Dre. I can’t say that title is particularly inspiring, but Eminem the title does fit with some of the rappers other discography titles.
While last night’s MTV VMAs ceremony was mostly about Taylor Swift muttering expletives at her exes, Miley Cyrus being explicit with a foam finger, and Lady Gaga’s numerous costume changes, Eminem also smartly teased the new album and single during Sunday night’s big ceremony. This morning, he released more official information, including the fact that The Marshall Mathers LP 2 will drop on November 5, which puts the title in direct competition with pop singer Lady Gaga, whose newest endeavor, ArtPop, will hit shelves on November 11. While the two don’t share exactly the same audience, it will be interesting to see which LP manages to sell more copies.
Eminem is more of a veteran in the music business than Gaga. The 40-year-old rapper put out an independent album all the way back in 1996 and followed that up with his major label debut, The Slim Shady LP, in 1999. During his career, the man has released seven albums, the most recent being 2010’s Recovery, an album that debuted at #1 on the Billboard charts and went on to garner the rapper some Grammy wins. It’s been three years since Recovery was released, and new music from the performer is overdue.
It’s not that Eminem has been lazy during that time. He has his own radio station and he recently even sort-of released a song called “Survival” via the trailer for Call of Duty: Ghosts. Still, putting out an album is a much bigger adventure, and should be more exciting for fans. We’ll keep you posted as new details about MMLP2 are released.
