Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong Heads To Rehab

Some Green Day fans may have approved of lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong’s foul-mouthed rant at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in response to the band losing some of its timeslot to Usher, but upon further review, the rock star himself apparently wasn’t very proud of what happened. In fact, the outburst was taken as a sign that he needed to shift the course of his life immediately.

According to TMZ, a representative for the band announced this morning that Armstrong is in the process of checking into a rehabilitation center to deal with problems related to substance abuse. In order to let him focus fully on his treatment, the band members have reportedly decided to cancel some performances in the immediate future. No make-up details or alternative arrangements have been made thus far, but hopefully, if the beloved singer is able to right the ship, there will be plenty of time to return to any and all of the places in the near future.

Apart from a DUI charge almost ten years ago, Armstrong hasn’t had that many run-ins with the law. He has, however, had a few strange occurrences over the past few years including getting kicked off a flight for hanging his pants too low and going to the hospital for gastric problems. At the time, each of those situations was taken at face value, but looking back, they could have been signs of a life speeding out of control. Or they could have been nothing important whatsoever. We won’t know unless Armstrong decides to speak on record, and if that does come, it won’t happen for quite a while.

Regardless, Pop Blend sends out its sincerest well-wishes to the frontman. Going to rehab might not be fun, but life is too short to spend it out of control. Here’s to hoping he’s better and back on the road in no time.
