Kansas City Chiefs Linebacker Jovan Belcher Reportedly Killed His Girlfriend And Himself
The entire Kansas City Chiefs organization is reeling this morning following a traumatizing murder-suicide. Details on what exactly happened are still a little bit fuzzy, but the local police department is claiming linebacker Jovan Belcher murdered his girlfriend early this morning, drove to the team’s facility, held a gun to his head and shot himself in front of general manager Scott Pioli and coach Romeo Crennel.
According to ESPN, police received a call from the victim’s mother early this morning saying her daughter’s boyfriend/ the father of her child had shot her during an argument. Not long after they arrived on the scene, authorities received a call from the Chiefs saying Belcher was in the parking lot holding a gun to his head. Several other players had reportedly noticed the defensive standout looking very distraught in his car, prompting Pioli and Crennel to come outside in an attempt to talk him down. After thanking his bosses for everything they did for him during his tenure with the Chiefs, Belcher reportedly turned around, walked a few paces and shot himself.
The entire scope and all the specifics of what happened won’t be known for days or even weeks, but regardless of what they reveal, it won’t change the fact that two people are dead and a child has been left without his parents. Pop Blend’s sincerest thoughts go out to everyone affected by this traumatic incident.
