Kerry Washington Has Reportedly Wed NFL Player Nnamdi Asomugha
While high profile celebrities often have trouble keeping big events in their personal lives out of the news, sometimes lesser-known stars are able to keep marriages, divorces, and sometimes even babies a secret for a little while. Kerry Washington has been a bigger name in recent years, thanks to her success as the star of ABC’s Scandal and Quentin Tarantino’s recent film Django Unchained. Which is why it’s a little bit of a surprise to learn that the 36-year-old has been married for several weeks without anyone being the wiser.
Terez Owens was the first to catch wind of the news that Washington has married NFL player Nnamdi Asomugha, a cornerback who recently signed on to the San Francisco 49ers. According to E!, the couple was married on June 24 in Blaine County, Idaho. Since Washington’s romance with Asomugha was kept pretty well under wraps, Idaho seems as fitting and obscure of a place as any for the couple to have gotten married.
Washington and Asomugha may come from different backgrounds, but the football player and the actress have more in common than you might think. In fact, Asomugha has dabbled in the acting world, taking guest roles in projects like Friday Night Lights and Leverage. Additionally, both Washington and Asomugha are big on philanthropy, with Asomugha signing on for the Clinton Global Initiative every year since 2009. Washington has also been an ardent supporter of philanthropy, volunteering her time via the Adopt-a-Classroom program in New York.
While Washington’s been busy acting, Asomugha has been busy in the football world. Back in April, he was traded to the 49ers. The man’s been in the league for a decade, however, playing for teams including the Oakland Raiders (who initially drafted him in 2003) and the Philadelphia Eagles. There is a little bit of difference in age between the couple, as Asomugha is only 31 and Washington is 36. Reportedly, the couple has been dating since last summer, which is a decently lengthy amount of time to hang out before opting to tie the knot, especially if the two are planning on having children.
Washington and Asomugha have yet to confirm that they are married, but since there really doesn’t seem to a reason for this to be a lie, we’ll just go ahead and assume this is legit. Though Washington has been pretty quiet via Twitter all day (except to wish her followers a happy 4th), assumedly at some point the couple will make a statement to either confirm the reported nuptials, even if they only give us a few barebones facts. We’ll be there every step of the way.
