Lamar Odom’s alleged cocaine and crack usage has been a big story in the news over the past several days. Even though we haven’t heard from the basketball player himself on the matter, the flood of reports coupled with the lack of denials would lead a person to believe there’s probably something going on, especially when one factors in the rumors that he cheated on his wife Khloe Kardashian too. As such, it’s not surprising the two are apparently considering a divorce, but it is a little surprising that Kardashian’s mother Kris Jenner is reportedly taking the lead.
Reports on Wednesday indicate that Jenner went to see Laura Wasser, a high profile divorce lawyer in Los Angeles, to discuss the best way to handle the prenuptial agreement between Khloe and Lamar and get the basketball player cut out of her daughter’s life swiftly and painlessly. According to the NY Daily News, Jenner believes that Kardashian is being super emotional about the situation and does not particularly want to divorce her husband, despite Jenner, Kourtney Kardashian, and Kim Kardashian all believing that bailing is the best call she could make right now.
All of this is hearsay, of course, but it wouldn’t be remotely surprising if Khloe would rather try to help her husband through his painful drug addiction rather than dump him to the curb. She’s always been the defensive mom-type personality in the family, and she doesn’t seem like the sort of person who would divorce her husband without spending some real time thinking about the prospect.
Of course, this isn’t your average situation. Over the weekend, reports surfaced that Odom has been dealing with a heavy drug addiction for the past eight months and has been doing drugs for even longer, which would go a long way to explain the man’s faltering skill levels on the court over the last several seasons, as well as his weight fluctuations. Yesterday, new reports indicated that Odom might have been doing drugs for far longer than was initially expected, as hotels came out to explain the player had trashed plenty of rooms since his days with the LA Lakers.
If Kardashian does take her mother’s advice and moves forward with a divorce, Wasser is probably a good woman to have on board. The lawyer famously helped Kim get through her split from Kris Humphries after only 72 days of marriage. She’s also helped a number of other big celebrities through painful divorces, including Heidi Klum, Ryan Reynolds, Angelina Jolie, Britney Spears, Kenny G. and many, many more. She’s a good woman to have in your court if you are dealing with high profile divorce issues and things like prenups, and if any celebrity has a reason to part from her husband, it’s Kardashian.
Sometimes it’s tough to let someone go when they are going through a difficult or troubling time, but if the extent of Odom’s issues hold true, than the basketball player will need to get clean before he can even begin to think about repairing his relationship with Khloe. It’s not unfair to ask her to be there for her husband during this troubling time, but she can be helpful without staying in the marriage. There’s a difference between supporting someone and sacrificing your own happiness.
