Kris Kross' Chris Kelly Has Died At The Age Of 34
It is with sadness that we share the news that Chris Kelly, the "Mac Daddy" half of the 90s rap group Kris Kross has reportedly died at the age of 34. Kelly was found unconscious in his home in Atlanta. The cause of death is currently unknown.
TMZ says Kelly was found in his home and pronounced dead around 5:30 p.m. EST at the south campus of the Atlanta Medical Center. Beyond that, details are slim right now.
Kris Kross consisted of Chris "Mac Daddy" Kelly and Chris "Daddy Mac" Smith. The duo of kid rappers launched to stardom with the 1992 song "Jump" of their debut album Totally Krossed Out. They released two other studio albums in the 90s, but none as successful as the first. They're probably remembered best by most for "Jump" - which certainly left its mark on early-90s hip hop and pop culture - and for being so young when they hit it big, not to mention wearing their clothes backwards. The duo split up after their third album Young Rich and Dangerous, which released in 1996.
Kris Kross reunited earlier this year for the 20th anniversary celebration of Jermaine Dupri's label So So Def Recordings in Atlanta.
Given his age, it's certainly a shock to hear of Kelly's passing, and a mystery for now, since there's no cause of death repoted yet. He'll surely be remembered fondly by those who loved his music and style. Our thoughts go out to his friends and family.
For those unfamiliar with Kris Kross' biggest hit, here's the "Jump" music video:
