Make It Work: Tim Gunn Hasn't Had Sex In 29 Years
Tim Gunn has always been a bit of an odd duck. With his strange mannerisms and goofy vocal inflections, the Project Runway mentor hardly fits the typical notion of a reality star, but thanks to his charm, sophistication and incredible job competence, he’s positioned himself as one of the more likeable men on television. Another performer likely would have used that likeability to land a beautiful and younger significant other, but in an interview with The Revolution, Gunn revealed he actually hasn’t had sex in twenty-nine years.
Remarkably candid through the sitdown, the fashion expert said his lack of sexual intimacy could be traced back to an extremely intense, long-term relationship he had as a younger man that ended when his partner scolded Gunn for being poor in the bedroom. Here’s an excerpt courtesy of People…
Of course, twenty-nine years ago was 1983, which would put the aforementioned traumatic relationship right as the HIV/AIDS epidemic was really beginning to swirl. Known as gay cancer and by other horrible nicknames at the time, the disease was causing havoc in the homosexual community, leading many men to wonder whether abstinence was the better policy. In the interview, Gunn also cited this as a reason for steering clear, but he was also very specific in letting fans know his dormant period has not been a personal mandate. He revealed he would be open to having sex again, but in order to go there, he’d have to find the right partner.
I love Tim Gunn. I think he’s absolutely perfect at his job, and deep down, I think he’s an awesome human being. Apparently a lot of other people agree with me. I asked Pop Blend readers a few weeks back if they were disappointed by the mentor’s absence from Project Runway: All-Stars. An incredible ninety-nine percent said “yes”. Who else on Earth has an approval rating that high?
