Man Whose Nose LL Cool J Broke Has Prior Manslaughter Conviction
The fight between LL Cool J and the transient who broke into his house might have been one-sided, but apparently, fifty-six-year-old Jonathan Kirby is capable of doing some damage. The Los Angeles County district attorney outlined the transient’s extensive criminal history earlier this week, and one of the entries is a voluntary manslaughter conviction.
According to The Los Angeles Times, the full details of what led to the conviction aren’t available, but the incident apparently occurred in Texas back in the late 80s. Coupled with several theft and burglary arrests, Kirby has spent extensive time dealing with the legal system, which is why, if he’s convicted on charges related to breaking into the rapper’s house, he could get more than thirty years.
Authorities also announced this week that LL will not be charged for his part in the brawl that left Kirby hospitalized. The star told officers he heard noises downstairs at around two AM and upon investigating, found the transient in his home. He quickly broke his nose and jaw and phoned the authorities who arrested the burglar. Given how aggressively he took the suspect down, a few thought LL should have restrained himself. Since he never asked to have his home broken into and wanted to protect his family, however, it was widely assumed he'd escape prosecution.
We’ll keep you updated as Kirby’s case winds its way through the court system.
