Mindy Kaling Talks Dieting And Exercise Plans

Mindy Kaling suffers from a common writers problem: having trouble finding the time to work on weight loss. The actress and writer gets to her show's set at 6 a.m. in the morning and often works until the wee hours of the next morning to accomplish everything that needs to be done to make The Mindy Project a success. In a perfect world, however, Kaling says she would “to lose 15 pounds and exercise five to seven times a week."

The 33-year-old recently spoke to US Weekly to talk abut her diet and eating patterns, the latter of which she feels could use some work. Kaling has been cutting out junk, recently, but she says cooking is still a challenge.

"I feel there's a really talented cook inside me. I feel I'd be a natural - the way that people look at sports figures and say, 'I could swim like that, but I don't have the time.'”

Just because she isn’t a cooking aficionado doesn’t mean she doesn’t care about her health. The actress says she enjoys running…as slowly as possible. She’s integrated jogging into her run, but she doesn’t do it for speed.

"When I'm not in production, I go for jogs five to six days a week. There's a history of heart attacks on my father's side of the family, so I do think about cardiovascular health. I'm an avid slow jogger. I always hesitate to go on runs with my friends because my pace is so slow. I'm talking about an 11-minute mile over an hour and a half."

Running a show sounds like a tough gig, and when a person is working that hard, it can be difficult to find the right balance between working and working out. Regardless, I’m sure most of Kaling’s fans love her exactly how she is, even if she not-so-secretly is keeping her fingers crossed she’ll drop a few pounds.
