NFL Linebacker Junior Seau Gone At 43
Less than two years after Junior Seau miraculously survived his car falling off a cliff, the beloved NFL legend was found dead in his Oceanside, California home today. His girlfriend reportedly left the residence after she awoke for an early morning exercise, and when she returned, she found the former Charger bleeding from a gunshot wound to the chest. Paramedics rushed to the scene, but nothing could be done to save Seau’s life. No note was found, but authorities suspect the shot was self-inflicted.
According to TMZ, cops discovered a revolver at the scene which they suspect may have been the weapon used. Beyond that, they aren’t speaking publicly, but news of Seau’s death has sparked an outpouring of support from fans, friends and loved ones. The Chargers released a statement saying the entire organization is in shock, and the defensive star’s mother was hysterical during her interview with reporters.
With incredible closing speed and a fierce will to win, he controlled the field like few defensive players of his era. He was selected to twelve Pro Bowls, ten All-Pro teams and the 1990s NFL All-Decade team. Opposing players feared him, fans held him on a pedestal and his coaches routinely praised his work ethic and dedication. He was truly a special player, one who earned the legacy he left in San Diego, and he will be missed.
Seau is survived by his girlfriend, his ex-wife, four children and numerous other family members. Pop Blend sends its condolensces out to them, as well as Junior’s former teammates and friends, as well as all those who were touched by his special life. He was just forty-three.
