North West: Do You Like Kardashian Baby Name Better After Hearing Explanation?
Kim Kardashian and Kanye West still haven’t spoken publically about why they elected to name their baby North West, but if the latest rumors are to be believed, they have given explanations to friends who are now speaking publically. That might not be as good as getting it straight from the horse’s mouth, but at least it’s some kind of insight into the reality star’s logic.
Apparently, Kim and Kanye liked the idea of North being the direction for up. They thought of this little girl as the North Star that binded the two of them together and forever altered their world, and they thought the symbolism of that would be the perfect story behind her handle. At least that’s the story E! Online got. Here’s the exact quote…
When most people sit down to name a child, they think about what their friends and relatives might think of the handle. Kim and Kanye, however, were in an extremely unique position. It wasn’t just their friends and family waiting to hear what the little girl would be called but instead a huge percentage of the general public who were either emotionally invested or at least vaguely curious enough to keep up with the news. Consequently, they likely felt tremendous pressure to find a name that would be unique and exciting but also not laughed at. Unfortunately, that goal wasn’t quite accomplished when the name was first released. In fact, people were pretty vicious about how stupid they thought the choice was.
That widespread condemnation, however, was before the general public had any kind of explanation for why North was chosen. Now that back story is out there, and it actually does have some logic to it. The idea of a child being a family’s North Star is really kind of endearing, and it shows the couple thought a whole lot more depth than they were originally given credit for.
That being said, I can’t decide whether this explanation makes me like the name any better or any worse. On the one hand, it’s nice to know they’re invested enough in this kid’s future to call her their North Star, but on the other hand, I can’t shake the idea that this poor girl is still going to be ridiculed by everyone at school for having a directional name.
What do you think? Does this explanation make you like North West any better? Let us know your thoughts by voting in the poll below…
