One Track Sunday: Donna Summer Thinks Policemen Are Hot Stuff
Donna Summer was a hit machine, a disco queen, and a woman with a beautiful set of pipes. When she hit the scene in the mid-seventies with “Love to Love You” her success was not the smoldering sort that would grow over the years or become an under-known cult favorite. Instead, she popped out hit after hit for the disco scene including “I Feel Love,” “MacArthur Park,” and the aptly named “Hot Stuff.”
Summer continued to perform well after the disco decade was over, and in 2004 was inducted into the Dance Music Hall of Fame alongside the Bee Gees. Earlier this week, the popular singer succumbed to lung cancer, dying in her home on May 17. Popular dance singer and fellow Dance Music Hall of Fame inductee Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees died just a few days later. It’s been a bad week for dance music, but here’s a snapshot of Summer just a few years before her cancel battle, performing her classic “Hot Stuff” with a group of naughty male dancers dressed as police officer. Could there be any better way to sing that song? No.
Rest in Peace, Donna Summer, we'll miss you.
