One Track Sunday: Edwarde Sharpe And The Magnetic Zeros Believe May Is For Mothers
Despite becoming cognizant of Christy Turlington via an obscure reference in the 1999 flick American Beauty, she is actually a bit more than a famous model, advocating for the charity Every Mother Counts, which works to get access to doctors and information on preventative health to mothers and pregnant women. Last year, the group put together a Mother’s Day compilation that was sold through Starbucks and this year, the Every Mother Counts continued the tradition, bringing in tracks from Coldplay, Eddie Vedder, and the one below, from Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros directed by the band’s head, Alex Ebert.
Despite some regretful lyrics, “Mother” is a soothing song for spring, ripe for nights of porch sitting, relaxing, or maybe driving at dusk. It’s the bass that stands out, along with vocals, a song utterly different than most of what we encountered on Up From Below, but fits well with many of the lullabies and softer music on the Every Mother Counts soundtrack. Unfortunately, “Mother” will only be available at Starbucks through May 29—the same day the band’s sophomore album, Here, is released.
