One Track Sunday: Fergie Releases Video For Great Gatsby Track
Fergie waited until The Great Gatsby craze was over to put out her recent gem of a music video, which features a roaring twenties sort of party, complete with top hats and flapper costumes. “A Little Party Never Killed Nobody (All We Got)” is Fergie’s big contribution to the soundtrack for Baz Luhrmann’s spring film. The video’s coming several months after The Great Gatsby hit theaters, but it seems she decided to wait for the twenties trend to die down a bit before she released her latest music video.
“A Little Party Never Killed Nobody” is a little similar to will.i.am’s video for his Great Gatsby track, “Bang Bang,” in which Fergie’s former bandmate also shows off his big dance moves. Fergie’s video is a little more modern and it’s in color rather than sepia, so it does feel a little fresher than her former Black Eyed Peas groupmate’s, but I guess it’s hard to do a 1920’s homage without the twenties costumes and panache. I could do without the additional product placement for Wet ‘n’ Wild and Fergie’s shoe line, though.
In the video, Fergie looks especially great to a mom-to-be. She and her actor husband Josh Duhamel announced that they would be having a baby all the way back in February, and the little boy is due sometime late this month or early in September. Sure, this video was shot a little while ago, and there are plenty above-the-waist shots and other camera tricks involved, but I would be hard-pressed to guess the woman is pregnant if I hadn’t known already before watching the video.
With a baby on the way, Fergie doesn’t have a new album in the works, but the single has already made a splash, thanks to the fact that it is a part of The Great Gatsby soundtrack. While the album didn’t debut at #1 on the Billboard charts, having unluckily lost out to Lady Antebellum’s most recent endeavor. It did debut at #2, however, and sold 136,000 copies in its first week at bat. In the time since, the soundtrack has done well, and now with the new music video, I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if Fergie’s song had its own musical moment.
The video for “A Little Party Never Killed Nobody (All We Got)” was released earlier this week, and the song itself can already be purchased at outlets including Amazon and iTunes.
