One Track Sunday: M.I.A Is A Bad, Bad Girl
M.I.A has had a busy February. She’s part of the Super Bowl halftime show alongside Madonna and Nicki Minaj. The video for her collaboration with Minaj and Madonna, “Give Me All Your Luvin,” dropped on February 3. That same day the music artist dropped her own video for “Bad Girls,” an offbeat song about living fast and dying young. Supposedly, M.I.A. has a full album dropping this summer, but the badassary of the “Bad Girls” video should be enough to tide us over for a few more months.
“Bad Girls” features M.I.A in weird costumes and even stranger hats as she hangs out with an Arabic street racing crowd that brandishes guns and burkas in equal amounts. The vehicles they drive are as ugly as they are slow, but that doesn’t stop anyone from tracking up some dust while M.I.A sings about shifting gears and knowing she can’t be stopped. And I believe her. Maybe it is the costumes, and maybe it's the sick hook, but M.I.A has managed to make Fast 5 look like amateur hour.
