Oscar Pistorius' Brother Carl Is Facing His Own Homicide Trial
The life of double amputee Oscar Pistorius has been examined from every conceivable angle since the Olympic hero was first charged with murdering his girlfriend, model Reeva Steenkamp, and in recent days, members of the media have started focusing on his family too. Today, that search led to one huge, shocking reveal: Oscar’s older brother Carl Pistorius is about to go on trial for culpable homicide.
A few years back, Carl was driving in the town of Vanderbijlpark when his vehicle struck a female motorcyclist. The woman was rushed to the hospital, but a few days later, she passed away. Pistorius was cooperative during the investigation, and blood samples indicated he was not drunk at the time. The local police department, however, claims his reckless and erratic driving directly led to the motorcyclist’s death, and he’s scheduled to go on trial at the beginning of March for his behavior.
According to the BBC, Carl’s lawyer is vehement that his client did nothing wrong. He claims the female motorcyclist actually ran into Pistorius’ car, and therefore, he should not be held liable for what was nothing more than a tragic accident.
Carl’s trial is widely expected to be over by the time his brother Oscar’s begins in June. The former has been a fixture at all of the latter’s court appearances thus far. If he’s able to beat the charges, he will likely continue to appear with the rest of the family too, but for now, that’s still one very big if.
