Prince George Looks Chubby And Serious During Christening Ceremony

Twenty-two family members and friends of Prince William and Duchess Catherine arrived at the Chapel Royal at St. James’ Palace this afternoon for Prince George’s christening, and in perhaps the least surprising turn of events ever, the ceremony was extremely well covered by members of the press and photographers hired by the Royal Family.

The ceremony lasted about thirty-five minutes, according to The Telegraph, and as you can see in the above picture, the guest of honor rocked a replica of the Honiton lace royal christening robe. Both Pippa Middleton and Prince Harry recited passages from the Bible during the ceremony’s runtime, and all seven of Prince George’s new godparents were in attendance.

I’m not really sure why Prince George needs seven godparents considering damn near every English citizen (with the exception of Morrissey) would care for this baby as their own if something happened to William and Kate, but regardless, let’s go over the lucky individuals chosen for the task. They are Oliver Baker, the couple’s friend from St. Andrew’s University, Hugh Grosvenor, the son of the Duke of Westminster, Emilia Jardine-Paterson, Kate’s friend from Marlborough College, Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton, the couple’s ex-secretary, Zara Phillips, Will’s cousin, William van Cutsem, the Prince’s boyhood friend and Julia Samuel, a close friend of the late Princess Diana. Altogether, it’s a pretty solid crew, but humorously, it probably didn’t go over very well with the Queen or Prince Charles.

It’s standard practice for most Royals to choose foreign dignitaries as their child’s godparents, but William and Catherine simply aren’t that traditional of people. They went with a traditional name, sure, but in many other ways, they’re very modern people who prefer to do things on their own and dress in fashion-forward ways. As such, it should surprise no one they weren’t interested in people godparents they had no real connection to.

Here's to hoping the little guy grows up strong, brave, intelligent, confident, healthy and capable.
