Rick Santorum Now Has Less Of A Google Problem
I don’t know if I’ve ever managed to encounter a politician like Rick Santorum, who so seamlessly has gotten an entire minority group to loathe him to the point where that group has named a gross and ridiculous sexual byproduct after him. This may have something to do with offensively calling rape within the Catholic Church a homosexual act. He even recently called the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell “an experiment.” Because of this, the Internet gay community has happily turned a giant middle finger in his direction.
Go ahead, Google “The Santorum.” I’ll wait.
Did nothing come up for the first few hits? That’s a new one. Up until yesterday, the first few Santorum hits were, for the most part, sexually related. That’s because the largest group of people who were really paying attention to the candidate were his haters. Fortunately or unfortunately, after Santorum’s incredible performance in the Iowa Caucus, Forbes is reporting the “frothy mix” recognized as “The Santorum,” has been bumped down a few notches.
Which is too bad for Dan Savage, the gay sex columnist who put a lot of work into spreading that term around the Internet. But honestly, the term is kind of a low blow for anyone. It’s easy enough to just stand by and allow the man to put his foot in his mouth over and over again. There's no real need to stoop to childish terms. With any luck, the man’s own words will be enough of a buzzkill.
With less luck, there will still be something to giggle about.
