Roger Ebert Hospitalized After Fracturing Hip
Roger Ebert just can’t catch a break. The man’s spent a better part of the last decade dealing with cancer and complications from cancer that have left him with jaw problems and the incapacity to speak without the help of a computer system. Over the last couple of years, he’s been in a bit better shape, although he has dealt with a live-in nurse. Unfortunately, today, that lucky streak ended when Ebert broke his hip.
The 70-year-old’s writer's wife, Chaz Ebert, broke the news first via Twitter, which stated her husband was in the hospital with a hip fracture, but also made light of the ordeal, joking about the activities she and her husband were up to when he injured himself.
Ebert also tweeted later to confirm the news—because we all know the man's a fan of double posting. We don’t know much about the fracture or how serious it is, but usually anything relating to a hip or knee injury isn’t exactly a piece of cake. The good news is that the prolific film critic says he won’t need surgery, which should be great news for fans, as well. The less time Ebert is forced to spend in the hospital, the sooner the man will be back in front of his computer, watching, writing about, and tweeting reviews.
