Sharon Osbourne Underwent A Double Mastectomy Last Summer

Sharon Osbourne has always been an extremely proactive woman. Whether in her initial career as a manager, later career as a television personality or her life as a wife and mother, she’s always been one to take action immediately, which is why it should surprise no one that she had a preventative double mastectomy last summer.

About a decade ago, the television personality was diagnosed with colon cancer. She courageously fought the disease and beat it. More recently, her doctors told her she had the gene that makes her much more likely to get breast cancer; so, The Talk co-host decided to “take everything off” in order to protect herself down the road.

Opening up to Hello Magazine, Osbourne said she’s not interested in anyone’s pity. This choice was about embracing the rest of her life, and that’s what she’d like to do…

”I didn't want to live the rest of my life with that shadow hanging over me. I want to be around for a long time and be a grandmother to Pearl.”

Osbourne underwent the thirteen hour procedure last summer, and the whole process had an unintended side effect: it convinced her not to have any more cosmetic surgeries. Doctors discovered her breast implants had leaked into her stomach wall, and that scariness, coupled with an increasing disappointing with how plastic she looks from certain angles, has pushed her told being natural from now on…

”You can't buy your youth back, no matter how much money you've got. I won't be going under the knife again."

Here’s to hoping Sharon spends the rest of her life loving grandmother-hood and embracing all the little things life has to offer.
