So, Apparently Flying Bikes Are A Real Thing Now
This dummy has a cooler bike than you. I don’t even need to know what variety or color your shabby two-wheeler is to know it’s worse than the one this guy trots out because, to my knowledge, he’s got the only one in the world that flies. That’s right. It hovers off the ground and moves around ET style, except there’s not any Steven Spielberg visual trickery here. This contraption really flies.
According to CNET, the bike weighs about 220 pounds and was manufactured by several Czech companies who pooled ideas and resources together. At this point, it’s obviously still a prototype, but the makers are hoping to have a product capable of carrying a real human being over a long distance by the end of 2013. Given the clunky size and how good of shape someone would need to be in to peddle fast enough to keep it in the air, we're probably still a long way off from this being sold at your local Target, but even so, that makes the above video no less cool.
People are inventing things like butter candles and quick shirt folds all the time, but those don’t quite offer the same wonder and amazement levels as a flying bike.
Here’s to hoping this concept takes off so much I’ll be forced to tell any children I might have that no, they can’t have a flying bike until they’re older.
