Solar Energy Becomes Cheaper and More Efficient With Breakthrough

Solar has been the poster child of alternative energy sources since the idea first came to light. If you’ve ever looked into it, however, you see that behind all the clean energy and low Electric costs stands a very expensive investment that will haunt you on a cloudy day! If solar energy were super cheap everyone would use it; so, it’s safe to say this new method of creating panels will certainly gain more converts to the power of the sun. The solar panels of the future will not only be more affordable, but sleeker and sexier than ever previously thought possible!

Alright maybe sexy is a bit too far, but a smaller, thinner, and cheap solar panel sounds like nothing but good news for the growing future of alternative energy. Toronto researcher, UPI uncovered a new type of light soaking nanoparticles called colloidal quantum dots. These miracle dots are not only improving the efficiency of solar panel production, but also opening up creative options for how panels are made. Researchers say this is the first step to making solar energy performance compelling at a commercial level.

Most web searches will tell you solar energy is an investment, which is business code for they don’t want to tell you how much it costs. It’s a bad sign when I visit a website looking for a cost and am told “That’s like asking how much it will cost to feed 50 people.” Yeah I get the metaphor but there’s a middle ground between throwing a group fried rice or steak tartare, but looking around you just won’t get a straight answer besides it’s not cheap, and that’s the problem. There are a percentage of people who truly do adapt to solar energy because they want a greener future for mother earth and future generations and all that eco goodness. There’s also a majority of us who keep doing what we do because it’s easier, cheaper, and not a pain in the butt.

Is staying the course and not getting green good in the long run? Who knows, but our blind intuition to do what is cheap and simple ultimately pushes for a more efficient product in the future! Check that out, you just made the future greener because you didn’t buy in right now! Kick over a tree and tell it to plant somewhere else because your nest egg carbon footprint is looking off the charts, bro.
