Watch Cookie Monster Spoof Call Me Maybe
Cookie Monster has never been my favorite of all of the Sesame Street cast members, although I will say he strikes a note far higher for me than Abby Cadabby. His newest Sesame Street feature, which began making the rounds on the Internet Tuesday, proves his inability to sing on key—a trait identifiable by many people, including my husband—but it also proves the blue furry puppet is good for one thing: sharing cookies.
Cookie Monster gets a whole slew of back-up dancers and musicians in the Sesame Street video for “Share it Maybe,” a new song that spoofs Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe.” Cookie Monster’s new track gets “the skim milk flowing” and ends on a much happier note than the video for Jepsen’s hit, but it lacks a little of the educational message usually available in Sesame Workshop productions. Still, sharing is a great message, and I’ll be darned if the song and video, featuring an extremely animated cookie monster, doesn’t get stuck in your head for the rest of the day.
I would go ahead and transcribe some of the lyrics, here, but it’s about time to start this snack going maybe, so I’ll just go ahead and leave you with old school Cookie Monster and “C is for Cookie.”
You can catch Sesame Street weekdays on PBS.
