Willie Nelson And Other Artists To Support Occupy With New Album
In cities across the country, due to inclement weather and uncooperative governments, the Occupy Movement has been shut down or has begun to die out. It seems, however, that many people are still ‘occupying’ in their hearts, and those with the capability to get the ball rolling would like to earn some funds for the movement. The best way to do this seems to be by producing some music.
This spring, a group of artists will contribute to Occupy This Album: A Compilation of Music By, For and Inspired by the Occupy Wall Street Movement and the 99%. The list of artists contributing to the album come from many different backgrounds and styles. According to The Wrap, the lineup for the upcoming album is lengthy. Aeroplane Pageant, Jennie Arnau, Joseph Arthur, Joan Baez, Richard Barone, Black Dragon, Julie B. Bonnie, Jackson Browne, Chroma, Lloyd Cole, Cosmonaut, Crosby and Nash, Danger Field, Devo, DJ Logic, Dylan Chambers, Steve Earle, Ronny Elliot, Alex Emmanuel, Global Block, The Guthrie Family, Debbie Harry, Warren Haynes, Harry Hayward, Immortal Technique, James McMurtry, Junkyard Empire, Ladytron, Los Cintron, Lucinda Williams, The Middle Eight, MOGWAI, Michael Moore, Mike+Ruthy, Tom Morello, My Pet Dragon, Mystic Bowie, Willie Nelson, Yoko Ono, Our Lady Peace, Matt Pless, Joel Rafael, Rain Phoenix, Ace Reporter, Mike Rimbaud, Jay Samel, Stephen Said, Tao Seeger, Thee Oh Sees, Thievery Corporation, Third Eye Blind, Louden Wainwright III, Taj Weeks, and Yo La Tengo will all be contributors on the upcoming album.
A press release for Occupy This Album states proceeds will go directly to “sustaining” the Occupy movement. As far as I can see, the album sounds as if it has pretty grandiose intentions. Whoever put it together seems to have had an all-inclusive attitude, with more well-known artists interspersed with lesser knowns. Overall, the collaborative nature of the compilation may not make it the best album ever; however, if you are a fan of the Occupy movement, it looks like it should be a must-have in your collection.
