Finding clips of old Oscar shows on YouTube is usually pretty impossible, but for some miraculous reason, right now you can watch Shirley MacLaine accept her Best Actress trophy for Terms of Endearment from presenters Rock Hudson and Liza Minnelli. It's not embeddable, but clicking the image below will take you there. Really, everything about it amazing-- the insane banter between Hudson and Minnelli, who seems as drug-happy as ever, the 80s fashion in the audience, how nervous every single nominee allows herself to look before the names are called, and especially MacLaine, 28 years after her debut in Hitchcock's The Trouble With Harry and finally getting the recognition she so clearly wanted. She cracks when she takes the stage that "this show has been as long as my career," but then her acceptance speech goes on forever! I know this is the ultimate example of the endless Oscar ceremony that everyone hates, but man do I love all this crazy bloat.
Watch the speech at YouTube. Really. You have to.
