12 Days Of Christmas: South Park - Mr. Hankey The Christmas Poo

It’s time to celebrate the Christmas/ Chanukah/ Kwanza/ Festivus Holiday season, so all around Cinema Blend we’re enjoying Twelve Days of Christmas. Yes, we know traditionally the “12 days” start with Christmas, but we plan on being celebrated out by that time, so we’re pushing the twelve days leading up to the holiday.
Here in Blend Television we’re celebrating by counting down our some of our all time favorite holiday episodes, in an effort to boost your Christmas spirit. These aren’t the 12 best out there by any means, just twelve of our favorites. Some of them you might enjoy like we do. Others you might want to check out for the first time. So without further ado:
On the sixth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me…
If there’s one show that can successfully produce a Christmas episode starring a piece of poop that jumps out of the toilet and spreads Christmas cheer, its South Park. “Mr. Hankey, The Christmas Poo,” which introduced the talking turd, was also the first episode where Kenny didn’t die. While both of those reasons should be enough to make this episode an all-time favorite of mine, it was the songs that really did it for me.
In addition to the “Mr. Hankey, the Christmas Poo” tune, there was also Cartman’s infamous, “Kyle’s Mom’s a Stupid Bitch” and Kyle’s sad ballad, “The Lonely Jew on Christmas.” Cartman’s inspiration came from Mrs. Broflovski’s incessant complaining whereas Kyle’s sad song was due to being left out of the Christmas festivities because he's Jewish.
In terms of Christmas episodes, this one had everything; songs, laughter, fighting, a message about the increasing sensitivity people seem to have about holiday celebrations and of course, a happy ending. When Kyle’s mom becomes angered that her son is playing Joseph in the school Christmas pageant, she makes a fuss and gets everyone worked up, resulting in a law being passed banning all religious references from the show. The pageant is totally ruined and everyone is fighting but like any truly great Christmas episode, someone is there to save the day and bring everyone together. In this case, it’s Mr. Hankey, the Christmas Poo! Talking poop? Totally immature but funny nonetheless. Howdy ho!
