A New He-Man Cartoon Is Coming, Get The Details
The classic 80s cartoon He-Man and the Masters of the Universe originally ran for only two seasons from 1983 - 1985, but it's built a cult following over the years that has led to talks of more He-Man. There have been a couple of new animated series over the years and one live-action movie that was a commercial flop. Now, the He-Man franchise will be back, and it's coming sooner than we might have thought. A special installment called "The Curse of the Three Terrors" has been produced and will make its grand debut at the 2016 San Diego Comic-Con.
"The Curse of the Three Terrors" will be available to the public for the first time after the Preview Night of San Diego Comic-Con, courtesy of Super7. Not much is known just yet about what the installment will feature, although Skeletor and Beast Man will be back to menace the good guys once more. The screening of the special will be free and available to the public on Wednesday, July 20 at 10 p.m. PST in Downtown San Diego. The location will be a giant parking lot, so there should be plenty of room for people to check "The Curse of the Three Terrors" out. Given that the screening coincides with Comic-Con, the audience should be pretty sizable.
The new episode from Super7 comes at a time when contemporary audiences who may not know too much about the '80s show might be building up interest. A big screen adaptation of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe had been in the works without much progress for the better part of a decade, but production has picked up in the last year. Director McG has been attached to the project, and Twilight actor Kellan Lutz is reportedly in talks for a major role. The Comic-Con crowd in San Diego could be a demographic that has been following progress of the possible new He-Man movie, so "Curse of the Three Terrors" could be a bigger draw in 2016 than in years past.
Luckily for those of us who won't be in San Diego for Comic-Con, "The Curse of the Three Terrors" will be an option for viewing for the general public online shortly after the big premiere. The installment will be available on iTunes and GooglePlay on August 1, 2016. For a sneak peek at the next adventure of the He-Man crew, take a look at the first trailer:
The trailer doesn't show much of what we might be able to expect of the plot of "The Curse of the Three Terrors," but I feel better knowing that Skeletor will be on board and up to his old tricks in trying to take over the planet of Eternia. Prince Adam was probably too busy getting ready for his next showdown with Skeletor to turn up in the trailer, and it might be more fun to not see too much of He-Man before the special debuts. Hopefully, fans and newcomers will be happy enough with what "The Curse of the Three Terrors" brings that there may be a long future ahead for all things He-Man. Check out our fall TV premiere schedule to see what you'll be able to catch on the small screen in the not-too-distant future.
