Taye Diggs Is Heading Back To Network TV In The Best Way Possible
They say that art has an interesting habit of imitating life. Events and characters from our own world almost always find themselves transplanted into a variety of artistic media in some form or another. This adage is true even for the realm of television. We've just learned that actor Taye Diggs is headed back to network television for a role based on some truly awesome real life inspiration.
According to a brand new report from TVLine, it seems that Taye Diggs will soon join the cast of the third season of Empire. The report indicates that Diggs will take on a character named Angelo Dubois -- a Harvard educated lawyer hailing from a wealthy New York family. Based upon the description of Angelo Dubois, it looks like he could cause a great deal of trouble or help for Cookie Lyon, depending on his relationship with her when they meet. The overall description for Angelo Dubois reportedly is based upon President Barack Obama, with the TVLine article describing him as a noble humanitarian with a strong inclination towards community building and local neighborhood politics.
Although the exact nature of Taye Diggs' character still remains to be seen, we can certainly expect to see quite a bit of him when Empire premieres. The actor will reportedly make his debut in the first episode of the third season, and TVLine has confirmed that he will take on a major recurring role throughout the year.
To say that Taye Diggs has had a successful career in the realm of television would be to wholly understate the obvious. Over the years he has appeared in numerous successful TV series, such as Will & Grace, Private Practice, Rosewood, The Good Wife and Murder in the First, making a name for himself as a reliable television performer without ever falling into the trap of typecasting. He's created a strong public profile for himself, and that doesn't even count his other notable contributions to the world of film, such as How Stella Got Her Groove Back, The Best Man and The Best Man Holiday. As his current series, Murder in the First, currently airs on TNT, his upcoming stint on Empire will represent his first major appearance on network television in quite some time -- and it most certainly feels like a welcome return.
