All eyes may be on Benedict Cumberbatch's next big role in Doctor Strange coming out in November, but fans haven't forgotten that Season 4 (or Series 4 if you want to get technical) of Sherlock is also fast approaching. It's been awhile since there have been any new episodes of the fan favorite series, and expectations are at an all-time high. Thankfully, Benedict Cumberbatch is around to let people know that the show will indeed still be awesome.
Benedict Cumberbatch was a busy guy at Comic-Con last weekend, promoting not only Doctor Strange but Sherlock as well. Comicbook.com caught up with the actor to question him on the upcoming season, and what fans can expect after the hiatus. Cumberbatch is aware that everyone is excited for the show to return and he teased that, while the core of the show is the same, big things are in store for Sherlock and Watson.
Basically, fans can expect everything that they love about the show amped up to eleven.
It's interesting to hear Cumberbatch say the show has evolved to a new level. It's clear to tell from the Season 4 trailer that there will be a lot more action than the show is used to. There were explosions and gunfights galore, which isn't exactly the first thing you associate with Sherlock. However, it's good to know that the mysteries, humor, and character relationships are all still there. That's not to say that there won't be any darkness; supposedly this is the darkest season of Sherlock yet.
When we last left Sherlock, he and Watson had just gotten a video transmission from their arch-nemesis Moriarty, seemingly back from the dead. Much of the new season will be about the duo trying to solve if and how their enemy is alive while protecting the people closest to them. They also have to contend with Toby Jones' mysterious villain character. Check out the trailer for Season 4 below to get a taste of what to expect when the show returns.
Sherlock will return in the UK on New Years Day and there isn't an exact date on when it'll get an American release. Check back in to Cinema Blend and we'll keep you updated as information becomes available.
