New Luke Cage Image Shows Luke And Misty’s First Meeting

New York's a big place, and there's always room for more heroes. Marvel's Defenders universe began in Hell's Kitchen with Matt Murdock a.k.a Daredevil, and then continued with the premiere of Jessica Jones last fall. Soon the action will move over to Harlem with the imminent release of Luke Cage, and Mike Colter's Power Man will inevitably bring a whole new cast of characters into the mix with him. We've just received our first good look at Luke Cage's Misty Knight, and it's a short but enticing glimpse at what the upcoming Netflix series has to offer. Check it out below.

Mike Colter's Luke Cage will soon make his transition from secondary character on Jessica Jones to main attraction in a series of his very own, and as such it's clearly time to start filling out the Luke Cage roster. The above tweet gives us our first good look at Simone Missick's Misty Knight. The photo in question seems to take place during one of their first encounters; even without any dialogue, it's clear to see that they share a strong amount of chemistry with one another.

Seeing Luke Cage in live-action already represented a huge moment for longtime fans of Marvel comics, but seeing Misty Knight is something many of us thought we would never witness. Most often depicted as an NYPD cop, Misty Knight has a long and storied publication history with several members of The Defenders, and she even has romantic ties to both Iron Fist and Luke Cage. A talented police officer in her own right, Misty Knight has also become well-known New York-based hero, even becoming equipped with a bionic replacement for her right arm (courtesy of Tony Stark) following a tragic accident. She's tough, she's smart, and she's undeniably badass.

Unlike Marvel's other Netflix properties, Luke Cage seems to take a very "out in the open" approach to the protagonist's crime fighting style -- which makes sense considering the fact that not much can hurt him. He doesn't use a secret identity like Daredevil, and he doesn't hide his powers like Jessica Jones. Luke Cage makes himself into a self-appointed hero of Harlem, and he develops a network of associates (and enemies) along the way. Misty Knight will obviously become one of many useful allies during this crusade to clean up the streets.
