A Fan-Favorite Game Of Thrones Character May Be Returning
Season 6 of Game of Thrones concluded two months ago, and fans are still talking about its explosive finale. Unfortunately, we've now entered the point where Game audiences must wait almost a year for a new episode. As such, they've already begun to speculate and theorize regarding the events of the now shorter Season 7, which should happen pretty much non stop until the premiere airs. Luckily for us, we may have just gotten a sneak peek as to what to expect from the new season, and it looks like a long lost character may finally be returning to the narrative. Namely, Arya's buddy and Robert Baratheon's bastard Gendry.
This news comes to us from the folks at Watchers on the Wall, who happened to spot actor Joe Dempsie at an airport in Belfast- where Game of Thrones is currently filming Season 7. This is pretty huge news for fans of the series, as we haven't seen Gendry on screen since back in Season 3. Talk about a long wait.
Gendry's fate has been long theorized, considering it's been years since we've seen the poor bastard. Toward the end of his arc on Season 3 he was taken by Melisandre, who used his blood to perform blood magic and curse Stannis' enemies. Luckily for him, the always honorable and sweet Davos rescued the bastard, and put him in a small boat leaving Dragonstone and headed to King's Landing. But as this escape happened, Gendry revealed that he never learned how to swim, leaving his fate precarious as he rowed away from danger.
Of course, just because Joe Dempsie was spotted in Belfast doesn't 100 percent mean Gendry is back on the show. The actors on Game of Thrones mostly seem to really enjoy their jobs, and they've been known to visit the set and say hello to old friends. Just last year Sibel Kekilli, who played Tyrion's lover Shae, was spotted on set for a visit. While this led many to believe that Shae might be getting some sort of flashback or dream sequence in Season 6, it turns out she was just on there for kicks and giggles.
Then again, Gendry has been a big question mark in Game of Thrones since Season 3. And with Cersei now sitting on the Iron Throne, Gendry might have the ability to challenge her right to the crown. He is Robert Baratheon's blood (something Joffrey and Tommen couldn't say), so it should be interesting to see how his return to the series will affect the overall plot. Plus Arya is finally back in Westeros, so perhaps they'll meet again and unite against their various enemies.
We'll just have to wait and see if Gendry actually returns to Game of Thrones. Keep tuned in with us at Cinema Blend for all your Game updates.
Game Of Thrones might be one of the most unpredictable shows on television, but there are a few things fans can always count on: rampant speculation on which characters may return from the dead, reappear or perish in a brutal way and, of course, a healthy obsession with nudity and which characters might get naked next.
