Supergirl Season 2 Has Added An Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. Actress
Comic shows are all the rage nowadays, and some are even crossing over with each other for special TV events. Unfortunately, it's highly unlikely we'll ever get to see any crossovers between Marvel and DC series. The Green Arrow won't be dropping by the S.H.I.E.L.D. bunker, and Daisy Johnson will not turn up in Central City to help the Flash. Still, fans of comic TV will soon get to see one of the most unforgettable Marvel actresses tackle an intriguing new part on DC's Supergirl. Dichen Lachman will play a villainess in Supergirl Season 2.
Photos from the Supergirl set reveal Dichen Lachman dolled up in a long red dress with a high slit up the leg to reveal a striking snake tattoo. Lachman was filming a night scene that will also involve Chyler Leigh as Alex Danvers and Floriana Lima as Maggie Sawyer. The photos (courtesy of YVRShoots) hint that Lachman's villainess character will be none other than DC Comics baddie Roulette.
The Roulette of DC lore is a villain without any superpowers. Her abilities with calculating odds for the sake of very high stakes gambling turned her into a formidable foe for any who dared oppose her. She managed to capture the majority of the Justice Society of America in her comic debut. Roulette forced the friends and allies to fight each other for survival. Losers ran the risk of electrocution, lethal illness, and mind-control. Winners weren't much better off as she came up with new and cruel ways to escalate the violence of her fight club.
Roulette is a relatively new villain in DC Comics. She first showed up to menace the Justice Society in 2001. The character has shown up a couple of times on television prior to what looks to be her appearance on Supergirl. She was featured in an episode of Justice League Unlimited, and she turned up in a Season 9 episode of Smallville.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. fans will know Dichen Lachman as Jiaying, who appeared in Season 2 as Daisy's long-lost mother. As an Inhuman who had suffered greatly at the hands of people who didn't understand Inhumans, she was rather understandably untrusting of the world outside her sanctuary. Jiaying wasn't exactly the mother that Daisy had always hoped for, but she helped Daisy in a big way as she discovered her earth-moving powers.
It sounds like Roulette will be a pretty far cry from Jiaying, so S.H.I.E.L.D. fans shouldn't expect to see Dichen Lachman turning in the same sort of performance on Supergirl that she did as Daisy's mother. Still, it should be fun to see a Marvel actress make the jump to DC. We don't yet have any context or even confirmation that Lachman will play Roulette, but her appearance on Supergirl is a good reason to get excited about Season 2.
Supergirl makes its CW debut on Monday, October 10 at 8 p.m. ET. Check out our fall TV premiere schedule to see when your other favorite shows will return to the airwaves in the near future.
