What Tim Gunn Thinks Of Kanye West's Clothing Line
Tim Gunn has been on a roll lately. The outspoken Project Runway host recently went off about the fashion industries difficulties with creating clothing for women of all shapes and sizes, he's spoken out about his own show and this week he went off on a very specific fashion source: Kanye West. The rapper and entrepreneur recently revealed his fourth line for the Yeezy brand, and Tim Gunn doesn't get the costumes. At all. Here's the blunt statements he made about Yeezy:
Tim Gunn's a man who likes classic styles and really great tailoring. Even when the Project Runway hosts come up with avant garde or even skimpy designs, Tim Gunn is a man still looks at those garments and wants to see something new and unique---along with the great tailoring I already mentioned. During a recent appearance on Access Hollywood, the fashion critic was totally open about why these clothes don't work in the slightest. From what we've learned from watching Project Runway, it's okay to be a little bit risqué, but the judges on the Lifetime series are constantly touting that usually show off both butt and the upper chest area is not generally the best look. It's no wonder he's not fun of the thin and stretchy styles the Yeezy line prefers. Then again, maybe it's also the price tag that's so offensive...
Tim Gunn didn't really stop there, however. He also had some thoughts about the people willing to shell out money for the Yeezy line of clothing---which quite frankly, is very expensive. There's a pair of sweatpants that ran for $1,170 bucks a year ago. Sure, Yeezy's footwear is a little less silly-looking, but they are still quite expensive.
Luckily, this isn't a direct bash at Kanye's wife Kim Kardashian, as I'm assuming she doesn't actually have to pay for the items her husband designs. If we're being super honest, Kanye West's brand is intended to be more about the expensive shoe designs than the clothing, anyway. And the barely there clothing does sort-of supplement the shoes he has put out into the universe. Regardless, if you are putting out clothing along with the shoes, you might as well do it well.
If you'd like to hear more of Tim Gunn's blunt criticisms, you luckily can catch them over at Lifetime. Project Runway just returned to the schedule for Season 15 this week, along with judges Heidi Klum, Nina Garcia and Zac Posen. New episodes air on Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET. In addition, you can find out when the rest of your fall favorites are returning with our fall TV premiere schedule.
