Watch The Hilarious Emmys Introduction Spoof Modern Family, Carpool Karaoke And Even Jeb Bush
If you have ever seen a televised awards show, then you have a pretty basic understanding of how they generally begin. The format has remained relatively unchanged for years, as the host often runs through a pre-taped segment that lampoons some of the biggest nominees of a given year. This year proved no different, as Jimmy Kimmel kicked off the 2016 Emmys by spoofing some of the most popular shows on television. Check out the hilarious video below to see for yourself.
The video opens with one of the most instantly iconic scenes from The People v. O.J. Simpson -- replacing The Juice with Kimmel in the back of the White Bronco. However, the Bronco didn't go fast enough for Kimmel's liking, and he eventually demanded to be dropped off on the side of the Los Angeles freeway. Don't worry, Kimmel's not done with his O.J. spoofs for the evening ; on to the next car ride!
Once Kimmel stepped out of the Bronco, the mood became considerably more magical as he found himself picked up by the entire Dunphy clan from Modern Family. The writers of the hit ABC series must have contributed to this portion of the segment, as it feels as though it had been ripped straight from an average episode. Phil (Ty Burrell) tried to regale Kimmel with the wonders of magic -- much to the chagrin of the entire Dunphy family -- but he eventually got distracted and slammed into a pile of dirt in the middle of a street, leading Kimmel to find a new ride for himself.
At this point Jimmy Kimmel decided to once again continue hitching, and this time he ended up in a vehicle driven by fellow Emmy attendee, James Corden. If you see James Corden in a car, that typically can only mean one thing: carpool karaoke. The two engaged in a spirited rendition of Wham!'s "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" before Corden became thoroughly annoyed by Kimmel's singing and dropped him in the middle of the street.
The ill-fated Emmy host then tried to catch a ride with the cast of Veep -- to no avail -- and proceeded to make his way down a line of limos in the hopes of finding a lift. Then it happens, the absolute best moment of the entire opening act: Jimmy Kimmel finally managed to make his way into a free limo, only to find it driven by none other than prominent Republican (and former presidential candidate) Jeb Bush. After poking fun at himself for his loss in the presidential primary, Bush got arguably the best line of the night by calling Kimmel a "godless Hollywood hippie" and driving off. It turns out that he isn't as "low-energy" as we thought.
Just when it seems that Jimmy Kimmel may never actually make it to the Emmy ceremony, he found his saving grace as Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) swooped down on a dragon and took him through the final stretch. In a huge, Ryan Seacrest-engulfing fireball, Kimmel makes his entrance, commencing the evening in beautifully hilarious fashion.
As much as we love that intro, it's only the beginning of a stellar evening. CinemaBlend will bring you up to date coverage regarding all of the biggest Emmy winners as more information becomes available to us. Stay tuned!
