Arrow Just Revealed A Huge Game Changer For Oliver Queen, Watch The New Footage
The premiere of Arrow Season 5 is only a week away, and we've gotten some exciting sneak peeks at the crew of vigilantes who will comprise the latest iteration of Team Arrow. Unfortunately for those of us who have been waiting for the show to get back to the basics, we haven't actually seen much of what Oliver will get up to aside from assembling the newbies. Now, a new trailer has hit the web, and it shows that Oliver won't be playing by one of his biggest old rules. Yes, that means killing is back on the table. Here's what Oliver Queen is feeling heading into Season 5:
Arrow Season 5 will apparently feature an Oliver who has fallen off the no-killing wagon. He made the choice to stop killing in honor of Tommy after Tommy's death in Season 1, and he's mostly stuck to it in the seasons since. He slipped up once by killing Count Vertigo in Season 2, and he just went ahead and killed both of his supervillains in Seasons 3 and 4, but Oliver has mostly kept as much on the straight and narrow as is possible for a vigilante. Reverting to his stance that killing is okay is a big change from the person he has become over the past few years.
Evidently, it was Laurel's death that pushed him back toward killing. Thea's protest that Laurel wouldn't want Oliver to start sending bad guys to the great beyond again looks like it will fall on deaf ears. It may take other vigilantes going on killing sprees to knock Oliver back to his stance of no-killing. His willingness to take lives was a big part of what set Arrow apart from other superhero adaptations back in the beginning, and the killing always allowed for some epic action sequences. Hopefully the stunt crew will unleash Stephen Amell a few times before giving Oliver back his quiver of non-lethal arrows.
The new trailer also gives us our closest look at the new big bad Prometheus that we've gotten to date. We've mostly seen distance shots of him getting up to some evil shenanigans, and we've known that he'll be especially dangerous due to the fact that Oliver had a hand in his villainous origin. The shot of Prometheus telling a beaten Tobias Church that the Green Arrow is his to battle is proof that Prometheus may not be willing to play with other bad guys if it means sharing the triumph of defeating the Emerald Archer. It bodes somewhat well for the good guys that Prometheus isn't looking to join forces with any other villains, but it bodes less well that Prometheus evidently took out Tobias Church without sustaining any injuries.
The new footage gives us a look at a whole different kind of action for one of the characters. Emily Bett Rickards revealed this summer that Felicity would be getting a new boyfriend in Season 5. Now, we have our first look at Felicity kissing a guy who isn't Oliver Queen. The glimpse of Felicity getting up close and personal is pretty distant, but the guy in question looks a lot like Christopher Chance.
Christopher Chance - AKA Human Target - is set to show up on Arrow in Episode 5 as a bodyguard who takes on Oliver's identity when he is threatened by some criminals. Given the fact that Felicity's boyfriend will be debuting quite early in Season 5, however, it's possible that Human Target isn't actually her new love interest. She could think she's kissing somebody else, whether it's the new early-Season 5 boyfriend or Oliver. Human Target does seem to be wearing Oliver's clothes.
Only time will tell how the new twists play out when Arrow returns to The CW on October 5 at 8 p.m. ET. Check out our breakdown of what we know so far about Arrow Season 5 for a peek ahead.
