In a few months, 24: Legacy, the spin off to the popular television series 24, will be hitting the airwaves. The show will feature an all new team of the CTU with Corey Hawkins' Eric Carter headlining, but the spin off has held back on announcing if any cast members from 24 would be making appearances in the new series. That's all changed, however, because one popular character from the original show will be returning for 24: Legacy: Tony Almeida.
According to ScreenRant, Tony Almeida (played by Carlos Bernard) will have a role to play in 24: Legacy. Details are a little scarce; it isn't clear how many episodes Almeida will appear in or how big his role will be. In the original series, Almeida had something of a flexible morality, so he could appear as either an ally or enemy to Corey Hawkins' lead character. This makes Almeida the first returning cast member to join the show, with Kiefer Sutherland's iconic Jack Bauer allegedly not returning. It was also previously hinted that Mary Lynn Rajskub's Chloe could also have some part in the series, but nothing more has been revealed so far.
Tony Almeida was an agent of the CTU who was something of a sidekick to Jack Bauer. Though he got his own romantic subplot with agent Michelle Dessler (Reiko Aylesworth), he mostly served supplementary to the always running and gunning Bauer. The character seemingly died at the end of Season 5, but rose from the grave two seasons later in a villain role. He would bounce around the hero and villain line for the rest of the long running series. Tony is one of the most popular characters from 24, appearing in over 100 episodes of the series -- a run that is only outnumbered by Jack Bauer and Chloe.
The inclusion of Tony Almeida will most likely help to serve as a bridge between the two shows. It's a nice bit of continuity, and time will tell how big the role actually is. 24: Legacy shares the same format of its predecessor and will follow Eric Carter, an ex-Army Ranger returning to America from overseas. After leading a mission to eliminate a terrorist leader, Carter returns home to find that he and his squadmates are being targeted by assassins in retaliation to their leader's death. Carter must then team up with the CTU in order to uncover a larger plot that could endanger the whole country.
24: Legacy will air its first episode on February 5, 2017, right after the Super Bowl.
