American Housewife And One More Just Got Some Good News From ABC
A lot of new fall TV shows have gotten good news from the major networks. Over at ABC, the track record has been pretty good for the network's new shows, at least with the exception of Notorious, which did see its episode order cut. One new series that had been waiting on an extended order was American Housewife, which premiered late on the network. We recently got some good news from ABC: American Housewife just got an extended episode order, along with second season show The Real O'Neals.
Per the network, American Housewife has earned a full back nine order, bringing the show's episode count up to 22 for its first season. That's a full season order, and more than some shows have gotten. American Housewife has kicked off pretty high for the network. The Tuesday night comedy has averaged more than 5 million viewers each week. The most recent episode did a 1.5 rating in the 18-49 and other episodes have done even better, so if it can keep those numbers up, it should be a pretty decent bet for ABC.
The comedy stars Eastbound & Down and Mike & Molly actress Katy Mixon as a mom who is pretty average in every way in her Connecticut community, but who tries to stand out. Early episodes have seen her get up to shenanigans related to her weight and even featured her signing up for a zombie run. It's a fun family comedy set in the suburbs, and it fits in with a lot of the rest of the shows in ABC's comedy lineup.
The Real O'Neals is a bit more of a surprise. Most of the time when a network orders a second season of a show, they order a full 22-episodes, unless a network series is created with a shorter episode order in mind. The Real O'Neals, on the other hand, was only given 13 episodes at the start of the season, which didn't show a ton of confidence in the series. ABC has tentatively given the comedy a little more of a boost, adding three more episodes to the comedy's count.
The show did deal with a bit of controversy over the summer, when series lead Noah Galvin made some controversial comments to the press. This led to many people wondering if the show would get its episode cut, and while it didn't, the show also isn't getting a back nine order now. We'll have to wait and see if it hangs on for a third season, but for now, any bump up is good news.
