Star Wars Rebels Could Feature An Epic Lightsaber Battle Between Two Fan Favorites
Star Wars Rebels centers on original characters, but the animated series has done a remarkable job of incorporating characters from the Star Wars movies, from Lando Calrissian to Darth Vader to Saw Gerrera. However, one notably absent player from this era is Obi-Wan Kenobi, who's only been seen as a hologram recorded during the Revenge of the Sith time period. Well, that's about to change. Kenobi is finally back, and it looks like he'll be going up against his old nemesis from The Phantom Menace.
There's a lot to take in from the trailer for the latter half of Star Wars Rebels Season 3, but the biggest shock is seeing old Obi-Wan Kenobi, or as he's known now, Ben Kenobi, back on Tatooine. Even better, he's face to face with Darth Maul again, and they're preparing to do battle one more. On top of this big reveal, Comicbook.com reports that Stephen Stanton, the man who voiced Admiral Raddus in Rogue One and Tarkin in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels, will voice Ben Kenobi in Rebels, a character he previously voiced in the video game Star Wars Battlefront II.

For those who haven't been keeping up with Star Wars Rebels, the reason we're also not losing our minds over seeing Darth Maul as well is because he's been a recurring player on the show since the Season 2 finale, with his plot threads left by The Clone Wars being picked up again. Recently, Maul discovered Obi-Wan Kenobi's location, and while we can't guarantee that their reunion will occur in the immediate episodes back, it's definitely happening. By the way, the only reason we're saying this lightsaber battle could happen rather than will is because the trailer ends before the two blades meet. It's possible that something or someone will interrupt them before the duel begins. Let's cross our fingers and hope that doesn't happen.
Although a new battle between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Maul is exciting, it won't be the first time they've fought since the former cut the latter in half approximately three decades earlier. The two of them previously clashed in The Clone Wars several times. Still, there's something fun about seeing the older Ben Kenobi, who has been on Tatooine looking after Luke Skywalker for many years, pulling out his lightsaber again to fight the man who killed his master. Despite being a hermit for so long, Kenobi is more powerful than he was during the Clone Wars, so just because he's pushing 60 doesn't mean he'll be easy to defeat. However, Maul has also grown in power, so this could be the most epic showdown between them right after their first battle in The Phantom Menace.
Star Wars Rebels Season 3 resumes this Saturday with the two-parter "Ghosts of Geonosis" at 8:30 EST on Disney XD.
