We're Getting A New Flash Character That Will Feature On Multiple Earths
The Flash introduced the concept of the multiverse into the DC shows on The CW, and some of its most unforgettable episodes have been set on Earth-2. Episodes have largely focused on the doppelgangers of the Earth-1 characters we've come to know and love, but Season 3 will soon feature a brand new Earth-2 character who will travel between universes to visit Earth-1. The sentient gorilla known as Solovar is slated to appear on both Earths in a pair of episodes later in 2017, and he'll be voiced by Keith David.
Solovar will make his Flash debut in Episode 13 of Season 3 and stick around through Episode 14. The Flash executive producer Andrew Kreisberg revealed at the recent TCA press tour (via TVLine) that one of the episodes will take place on Earth-2 while the other while take place on Earth-1. Kreisberg did not specify which episode would take place on which Earth, but we can guess that the first half of the two-parter will probably be set on Earth-2. Solovar is known in DC Comics for his position as the leader of Gorilla City, and we saw in The Flash Season 2 that Gorilla City is located on Earth-2.
The DC Comics version of Solovar was an ally of the Flash and an enemy of Gorilla Grodd. If Solovar and Grodd are as antagonistic on The Flash as they were in the comics, Grodd will be a major obstacle for Solovar as ruler of Gorilla City. Given that Grodd only ended up in Gorilla City on Earth-2 because Barry and his pals sent Grodd through a breach to get him out of Earth-1, it's possible that Solovar may not be entirely happy with Barry when they cross paths in Season 3.
A big question we have is related to how Solovar (and presumably Grodd) end up on Earth-1. Team Flash went to a lot of trouble to send Grodd to Earth-2, so it's unlikely that they'll bring him back out of the goodness of their hearts. If one of the two gorillas somehow makes it to Earth-1 on their own, the other may follow for an Earth-1 showdown. Solovar presumably has many allies on Earth-2 as leader of Gorilla City, so it would stand to reason that Grodd might want to take on his enemy on Earth-1.
Veteran voice actor Keith David will bring Solovar to life in the two Flash episodes. He has worked extensively with comic productions over the years, lending his voice to animated projects for both Marvel and DC. He's played characters ranging from Mongul on Young Justice to Despero on Justice League to Nick Fury in the Marvel Heroes video game. It should be interesting to hear his voice out of a CGI character in a live-action series.
The Flash returns to The CW on Tuesday, January 24 at 8 p.m. ET. Take a look at our midseason TV premiere schedule to see when your other favorite shows hit the airwaves in 2017.
