The Golden Globes Misspelled John Legend's Name And Chrissy Teigen Thought It Was Hilarious
The 74th Golden Globes took place on January 8, and the best of showbiz came together to honor each other. Aside from a handful of surprise snubs and one teleprompter fail, the awards show went off without a hitch on NBC. As it turns out, however, something went wrong when it came to singer John Legend's place card. His name was spelled wrong, and wife Chrissy Teigen wasn't exactly offended on his behalf. In fact, the Lip Sync Battle co-host apparently thought it was pretty hilarious. Check out her tweet!
Chrissy Teigen's tweet regarding her husband's erroneous place card leads to a couple of major questions about what went on behind the scenes at the Golden Globes this year. The biggest is simply how somebody managed to misspell John Legend's last name. After all, "Legend" is actually a real word, and John Legend is famous enough that most people connected with the Golden Globes should have realized that "John Ledgend" just wasn't right. The card was apparently printed, folded, and placed out without anybody noticing.
Of course, it's possible that the mistake wasn't with the place card. Maybe there was a man named John Ledgend who was supposed to sit next to John Legend's wife at the Golden Globes, and he was stuck outside because somebody else claimed his place. Is it likely that John Legend stole John Ledgend's seat? No. But it's fun to think about.
Kudos to Chrissy Teigen and her husband for clearly taking the misspelling as an entertaining error rather than an offense. The Golden Globes are one of the more relaxed awards ceremonies, and the alcohol flows freely among the attendees. It's good to know that their evenings weren't ruined by something as simple and silly as somebody not realizing that John Legend's name didn't look quite right. These are people who sat down during a red carpet interview with Ryan Seacrest, so It's not a huge shock they'd be so casual about the whole thing.
The mistake is a bit surprising considering why John Legend was at the Golden Globes, however. Legend appeared in La La Land and contributed a song to the soundtrack. La La Land was a major winner at the Golden Globes, taking the top prizes for Best Picture, Best Actress, Best Actor, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Score, and Best Song. He was attached to the biggest movie of the Golden Globes; I would have thought it more likely that somebody on a much smaller project would have found a place card with a typo in their name.
