The Defenders: Get Your First Look At Sigourney Weaver's Character
Netflix has become one of the go-to sources for high-quality Marvel entertainment over the course of the last few years. Between Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and the impending release of Iron Fist, there's no shortage of top-notch content. That said, the thing fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are looking forward to is The Defenders. With that in mind, the first official look at Sigourney Weaver's villain from the upcoming series has officially hit the web. Check it out below to see for yourself!
If that EW photo of Sigourney Weaver's character on The Defenders tells us anything, it's that she appears to be a strong, independent, and successful woman. In the words of showrunner Marco Ramirez, she's an "utter badass." Beyond that first look at the character, it has also been revealed that her name is Alexandra. It's not much to go by, but it's an enticing start.
The name Alexandra makes things a bit more perplexing as there aren't too many characters in the Marvel mythos named Alexandra -- and there are even less who have any direct affiliation with The Defenders team. However, given the fact that The Defenders universe has already proven itself more than willing to play fast and loose with the origins and characterizations of particular heroes and villains, we're not ruling out the possibility her name is a red herring to distract us from a more well-known or iconic identity. After all, Wilson Fisk didn't become Kingpin until the end of Daredevil's first season, Kilgrave was never really referred to as The Purple Man on Jessica Jones, and Black Mariah was a surprise replacement for Cottonmouth on Luke Cage. Anything can happen at this point.
The intriguing thing about Alexandra is the fact that she pretty much has to be the most badass and formidable opponent these heroes have ever faced. We need to believe that she's such a danger to New York City that one single hero cannot take her down alone. Considering everything that we have already seen these heroes go through over the course of the last few years, that means that she's going to bring some serious intelligence, some substantial firepower, and a ton of ruthlessness to the battle.
