Arrow's New Black Canary May Have A Huge Secret

Tina Boland

Warning: Earlier today, rumors made their way around social media which outlined heavy spoilers for tonight's episode.

Ever since Laurel Lance was killed by Damien Darhk, Arrow has been without a regular Black Canary (sorry, Evelyn, you don't count). Oh sure, Oliver Queen has a new team of vigilantes to work with, and Laurel's Earth-2 doppelgänger showed up last week, but it hasn't been the same. However, after dealing with Black Siren "Who Are You?", Oliver decided to finally honor Laurel's dying wish by finding someone to become the new Black Canary. Right now, the main candidate for that position is Tina Boland (played by Juliana Harkavy), a character who doesn't hail from the comics. Well, at least that's been our impression, but a new rumor claims there may be more than meets the eye.

The rumor in question was a reference to the alleged end scene for "Second Chances", in which it outlined the supposed finale line-by-line. It described a meeting between Oliver Queen and Tina Boland, and while we won't give it away, it seems to hint very strongly at a connection to the comics. We'll analyze that connection, if it proves to be true, in the coming days after the episode airs.

Here's what's been officially revealed about Tina Boland so far: she's a former Central City detective, she distrusts vigilantes and she has her own Canary Cry, as seen last week. It seems like the show is setting us up to explain a whole lot more, but there definitely seems like a few puzzle pieces are still missing.

Tina Boland is labeled as a recurring character for the rest of Arrow Season 5, so whether she officially becomes the new Black Canary or not, viewers will see more of her in the coming weeks. We can't wait.

New episodes of Arrow air Wednesdays at 8 p.m. EST/PST on The CW.
